It's been less than a week since I finished reading this VN, but it's so unremarkable that my memories are already starting to get kind of hazy.

This is a pretty short and unambitious yuri story with a college setting. The first two acts are a pretty simple story about two female students getting to know each other and eventually falling in love. It's not exactly bad, with there at least being a few moments here and there that I kind of liked, but there's really not much to it. With its relatively fast pace, the character development doesn't feel entirely convincing.

During the third act, it finally introduces an element of conflict, with Allison and Eileen's relationship becoming seriously damaged as Allison takes issue with Eileen's unwillingness to let her properly enter her life and questioning if she even really cares about her or if she just sees her as a means to have fun and distract herself with. It could have made for a decent conflict, but doesn't really get a proper resolution, with the story just ending on the note of Eileen acknowledging that Allison wants something else out of their relationship and pledging to do better, but we ultimately don't get to see how things actually evolve from there. Eileen specifically comes off as a rather poorly realized character as a result.

When I first got this ending, I assumed it was going to get followed up on in Twofold, but that turned out to not be the case. In fact, this VN's whole relevance for Twofold is rather limited. Allison and Eileen show up as somewhat notable support characters in one of its routes, but their relationship is barely relevant for it. Outside of a few minor references and appearances by characters who are fairly insignificant here but become more important in Twofold, First Snow is barely connected to Twofold and really just an unimportant side story. And not a particularly good one.

There is an option for H-scenes (the Steam version requires a patch for it). It's rather surprising they exist, considering there are none in Twofold. (Though TBF, Twofold was originally planned to have some, so perhaps the decision to drop those was made after First Snow's development.) They're not too forced in terms of placement and don't break the tone of the writing too much, but nothing of note happens in them and their occurrence isn't important either. If you don't care about some poorly drawn softcore nudity, there's really no reason to enable them.

Although originally almost entirely unvoiced, an update added partial voice acting to the VN. It's very partial indeed, with characters only sporadically having proper voice acting. Most of their lines are either completely unvoiced or play a small selection of generic voice clips that vaguely suit the line's purpose. It's a pretty awkward experience and also suffers from some poor audio balancing, with a generic voice clip of Allison sighing in particular being far too loud and having always startled me whenever it played. I guess the parts that did get fully voiced are fine, but it's hard for me to properly judge their quality when they're oftentimes over in a heartbeat. I can't say I blame the developers for having not wanted to invest the money necessary to fully voice a free VN (the fact that they invested any at all for this is already surprising), but I can't say the voice acting improves the experience very much.

The soundtrack is full of calm and atmospheric jazz-inspired tunes. It fits, but doesn't stick out very much. Most of the tracks that are actually memorable would only see use in Twofold.

Visually, the VN is a very mixed bag. The sprites have a rather unconventional look with their paper cutout appearance and fairly elaborate scripting, though Twofold would take this concept further. It's a bit disappointing that Allison doesn't get any sprites, though. With her naturally having a need for her own sprites in Twofold where she's no longer the protagonist, I wouldn't assume it would've added a lot of extra expense to give her some here as well. I know that not giving the protagonists sprites is a common VN convention, but from my experience, yuri VNs are usually a welcome exception to the rule. The graphics fare much worse in the CG department. Those are massively inconsistent with the sprites from a stylistic perspective and just poorly drawn beyond that.

So I don't think there's much value in this VN overall. Its importance for Twofold is fairly minor, and it's not very representative of what that VN is like.
