This series seems to be cursed to never have a good game after Origins. This could've been it though.

Sadly I cannot bring myself to finish my playthrough of this game. It has a great overarching plot, and the combat is serviceable at best (I still feel it would've been better off focusing on either tactical or action combat, instead both just feel phoned in), but all of it is bogged down by a super grindy, unfun open world mechanic that felt like it was tacked on during an era where every suit wanted devs to work on an "open world game". The funnest segments of the game are the linear missions you get along the way, but between each of those is grinding for levels and "power" to unlock said missions via the open world segments, most of which is repetitious content, collecting relics, closing portals that conjure the same demons, collect bear asses, basically everything you expect from an MMO but without the social element. Character development also seems to take a step back, as only a few of them seem to offer any interesting dialogue, and it winds up being a far cry from standards set by their previous entries.

Maybe I'll come back and finish it. Right now though, I'm a bit burnt out on bear ass collecting for the townspeople.
